Winter After-School Programs

ASP update – Yoga (Monday session), Crazy Circuits, Volleyball, Art Club, Lego Club, and Improv! are now full. These classes are at risk of being cancelled: Chess Club (both days), Tuesday Yoga (K-5). Scene & Monologue has been cancelled. These classes also have space available: Authors Club, Healthy Cooking Club, Kindness Club, and Spy Academy.

LES PTO AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

After-School Programs begin the week of January 14 and meet after school from 2:40 – 3:45. Parent pick-up promptly at 3:45.

Class location information will be provided in January.

Art Club with Mrs. Suitor

Join Mrs. Suitor for a beastly adventure in after school art club. Children of all ages are welcome to create art with animal themes. We will paint a bear on canvas, discover the cat art of Laurel Burch, create clay pinch pot monsters and more. Minimum 8, Max 20 students.

Authors Club with Mrs. Wetmore *NEW*

Do you like to write? Do you have a favorite author? Come join Mrs. Wetmore for a chance to get your creative juices flowing and learn about different techniques that authors use to write. We will explore brainstorming, sloppy copies, journaling, and even publishing! Max 10 students.

Bear Perfect with Mr. Brockway *NEW*

This will be a Lovettsville Elementary version of a popular YouTube group that performs sports “Trick Shots”. In this club, we will practice performing the most amazing trick shots possible (with various sports equipment) and video record them to show your parents and family – because they won’t believe it unless they see it!! Minimum 8, Max 18 students.

Chess Club with Mr. Mac

The Chess Club will provide instruction in mechanics, strategy and tactics as well as provide opportunities for children to play other club members in a positive environment. The objective is to teach kids the fundamental aspects of chess. The mission is to increase self-esteem, help kids to become critical thinkers and help them with problem solving. Minimum 8, Max 10 students.

Crazy Circuits with Brainiacs *NEW*

Gadgets and gizmos all run on electricity and other energy sources. Build flashing lights, adjustable volume siren and more. Learn the basics of electrical circuits and how electricity makes our lives light up and move. Students will use motors, sensors, lights, buttons, buzzers and much more to explore engineering design principals to build series and parallel circuits! Minimum 5, Max 12 students.

Healthy Cooking Club with Mr. Brockway *Back for the Winter Session*

This program is designed to teach students how to make fun, healthy snacks for themselves and their families! Students will gain valuable life skills such as making healthy food choices, food safety, food preparation, math, food science, creative and critical thinking, as well as reading and writing. Proper food safety guidelines will be followed at all times and no actual cooking will be done. All materials and utensils will be disposable, plastic and kid friendly. Special considerations will be made regarding food allergies. Students will take home the snack they prepare with a recipe card.

Minimum 6, Max 12 students.

Improv! with Ms. Larson *NEW*

Welcome to the world of Improvisational Theater! Improv can help children learn in many different ways, including having a mutual respect for others and their ideas, and building confidence that will pay dividends in the educational classroom. It enhances creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. Let’s have fun playing games and learning to think quickly on our feet! This class is fast paced and great for all ages. Minimum 8, Max 16 students.

Kidding Around Yoga with Ms. Lundy

Kidding Around Yoga (KAY) is stress management for children. While teaching the science of yoga, KAY provides a curriculum that is specifically designed to help children be active, learn to relax, improve focus, and have FUN in a non-competitive environment. KAY reaches children through the way they learn best—play! Minimum 8, Max 12 students.

Kids’ Boot Camp with Coach Jeff

Is your child looking for a way to get ready for Spring sports? How about just getting FIT? Coach Jeff with Fitness Image Results will get your kid FIR-FIT!! This club will keep the children moving and teach them fun ways to become stronger and healthier. Minimum 10, Max 25 students.

Kindness Club with Mr. Brockway

This new club is all about spreading kindness throughout our school. Each day we will do various tasks to help others at Lovettsville ES. We will help our custodians and cafeteria staff to get ready for the next day, make copies and laminate for teachers, send kindness notes to staff and help make LES a positive place to learn. Minimum 8, Max 15 students.

Lego Club with Mrs. Wetmore

Join in an afternoon of Lego fun. Each week we will focus on a different Lego challenge. Be ready to get creative and use your imaginations! Minimum 6, Max 10 students.

Scene & Monologue Workshop with Ms. Larson *NEW*

In this class, students will learn the formula for creating a character and presenting it to an audience, all while building confidence, learning to trust their instincts, and developing independent thinking. Students will be asked to memorize and present age appropriate material to the class.

Minimum 8, Max 16 students.

Spy Academy with Brainiacs *NEW*

Join the elite group of recruits to become a spy-in-training. Agents-in-training will learn about forensics, how to break or make codes, surveillance techniques, critical thinking and solve logic puzzles. Agents-in-training will also explore the art of espionage, create and use spy gadgets, go on scavenger hunts, tackle obstacle courses, and develop disguises. Minimum 5, Max 20 students.

Volleyball with Coach Chris Ann

Students will learn the fundamentals of volleyball and hone their skills in this exciting new class! Minimum 8, Max 24 students.
